Project Basics

If you have arrived at this page, there’s a reasonable chance that your teacher has assigned you a science fair project that is due in the spring.  Some of you would like to get this done as quickly as possible.  We’d prefer that you do things right.  The odds of winning big at our regional science fair in Mitchell South Dakota are far better than the lottery.

You’ve better than a 1 in 30 chance of winning a trip to the International Science and Engineering Fair if you are in high school (click here if you're in Middle School for the Discovery Young Scientist Challenge award).  Every year the South Central Fair takes two individual students and one group project to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. This year's fair will be held in Reno, NV. The student winners will have all of their expenses paid. Two alternate winners (grades 8-12) may travel to the fair provided they find adequate funding for the trip.

Explore our web page for links on how to win.  Only the last link is tough to understand; it’s the one on statistics.  Proving your case with numbers is the second greatest way to win big at the International Science and Engineering Fair where prizes are measured in the thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars.   What is the best way to win big?  The answer is a good idea.  Again, check our links.  We hope that they’ll stimulate some original thinking.   When you are ready, return to the home page for help with the forms.
